Mental Health Plans and Reviews
If you suffer mental health issues, the doctor might need to refer you to a psychologist. By the doctor doing a special form called the Mental Health Plan, the government pays for your psychology visits (although some providers have a gap fee).
The plan entitles you to 6 visits and if psychological support is still needed, you will need to return to the doctor for a further referral which then gives you a further 4 visits with the psychologist. A Mental Health Plan Review can be done by your GP after 6 months has elapsed from the original plan and is an excellant opportunity to see that the goals of the original plan are being achieved and to determine where to go from there.
The doctor will need approx 40 minutes to do an initial Mental Health Plan and at least 20 minutes to do a Review, so please book your appointment accordingly.
